Guten Tag everybody!!!

As I wrote before, I have started studying and already "survived" the first month of those all-nighters and deadlines. This post will tell you about my first impression about the second year at Jacobs.

First of all, let me tell you about the curriculum in this university. Differing from other universities, here you get your bachelor's degree in 3 years. Thus, you don't have that first year, when you study "everything" and decide the field you want to study in. You should tighten your interests and decide on what you may want to study before coming to this university. In your first year, you choose 3 core modules and study them through your first year (in my case, they were: CS (Computer Science), ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering,) and IMS (Intelligent Mobile Systems) ). The next 2 years you continue with only one of them and get your bachelor's degree in that major.

My first year : From the first days, my plan was to study Electrical Engineering and nothing else (which is understandable, assuming my only-physics background). Since you need to choose 2 more modules, I had to take something else as well. After talking to my academic advisor (who is a computer science professor) I took CS and IMS. I was quite afraid of taking CS (which is again understandable, assuming my zero background in this field). I guess this was one of the most important decisions in my life so far. After one month of studying, I had new hobby, new goals and new plans. I became a Computer Science guy. During that year, I was slowly falling in love with this world of codes, which was completely undiscovered by me before. 

Although I completely lost my passion to study EE anymore, I had to study it until the end of the year according to the university policies. It wasn't that big of a problem in the beginning, but the workload was becoming bigger and the study material harder from week to week. But let me skip all those details and just say that I survived that year. And here comes my second year, which I was a bit scared of after the horror stories told by former second year students. After getting familiar with courses and teachers, I could again see a lot of hard work coming. Now, after one month I can say that the workload is even bigger than in the first year. So, what is the difference between the first and the second years, that I can feel so far?

The major difference is that all the courses I'm taking in the second year are from CS module, which means: no more undesirable work. Even if I have to stay awake until the early morning to finish the assignment, I enjoy it (of course this may not be true later, when harder stuff will come :P ). But for now, I even don't have any stress for studying through the nights and not understanding the lectures (well, I don't enjoy not understanding lectures, but the self-study I do afterwards). I enjoy my second year studies even more than writing blog posts :D. So now, I need to go take something to eat, to get some energy to finish this post and let you to read it. (Okay, now I feel much better).

Let me tell you about my situation around 2 years ago. I was just about to apply to universities and the question: "What do I want to do in the future?" wasn't leaving me alone even for a second. I was good at Physics and that is what everyone else was expecting me to choose. But I knew it wasn't mine. I didn't have any dream job and the quotes like "Do the work that you enjoy and you'll never have to work again" were just some unreal quotes from the motivating movies. I just didn't know anything, that I would do with the great enthusiasm (I wanted to become an actor, but I thought I won't succeed in that field a lot). Then I decided to do just what I can and applied for the Electrical Engineering at Jacobs University. And you already know what happened next. 

Comparing the two conditions (now and then), I feel just thankful, that I discovered my own world of joy. I found the way to work hard and play hard at the same time.

Application to the Universities. My Experience.

Disclaimer: This post will be in Russian Language. But if you don't know Russian and speak only in English, believe me, you don't need the information that I'll write below. This post will mostly contain the information, which may be needed for pupils, who are looking ahead to apply to the colleges and universities soon.

И так, начнём.
Уже сентябрь, уже осень. И мне, как к человеку который поступил учиться в университет, начали приходить волны вопросов про поступление и обучение в Германии. Раньше я отвечал на все вопросы индивидуально и если честно, иногда они заставали меня не в то время и отвечал я коротко и не очень подробно. Сейчас я решил влить в этот пост всё что я знаю и поделиться всем моим опытом поступления в университеты и в колледжи в Европе и в Америке. Сразу предупреждаю, что это было 2 года тому назад и я могу помнить мало, и могу даже дать вам устаревшую информацию. Поэтому примите этот пост просто как советы и не полностью им доверяйте :D

Если вы до сих пор это читаете, то вы скорее всего намерены серьёзно и хотите узнать как поступить именно в универы на западе. Раз так, вы наверняка знаете, что всё начинается с подговкой к SAT и TOEFL. Это два единственные теста, которые я сдавал и которых как мне кажется достаточно. Начнём с SAT.

SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) демонстрирует собой унифицированный тест, итоги которого нужны абитуриентам для зачисления в элитные американские колледжи. Недавно, формат SAT поменялся и я не владею большой информацией на счёт его нынешнего состояния, но думаю сильно он не изменился. Идеально, подготовка к SAT должна начаться как минимум за 1 год до сдачи экзамена. В нём проверяются ваши навыки английского и математики. Поэтому если вы ещё "молоды", и у вас ещё есть пару лет до этой головной боли, начинайте уже читать много книг на английском и практикуйте свои знания написанием небольших историй (конечно же на английском). Но если у вас очень мало времени, то есть сейчас уже Июнь-Июль, то могу сказать что сильно вы подготовиться к эказмену уже не сможете. Вы уже должны зарегистрироваться на сдачу SAT на его оффициальном сайте (https://www.collegeboard.org/), так как период регистрации заканчивается задолго до экзамена. Так как вам осталось совсем немного до экзаменя, чтение книг и написание рассказов сильно не помогут. Берите книгу SAT, и готовтесь по нему. Устраивайте для себя очень много тестов. Готовтесь день и ночь, возможно у вас не всё ещё потеряно. Чтобы вас промотивировать, скажу, что я тоже начал готовиться примерно в конце Июля (сдал конечно не супер, но не очень то уж и плохо). Кстати книгу не обязательно покупать. Поищите, возможно вы его найдёте, но я бы не пожадничал иные деньги на эту книгу.

SAT Subject Test - тест на подобие предыдущего, но уже проверяющий знания в других областях (в таких как математика, физика, история, испанский и т.п.). Вопросы будут немного углубленнее, но если вы хороши в каких то областях, то обязательно сдайте SAT Subject Test. Он будет дополнять другие ваши результаты и будет большим плюсом (конечно если результат хороший). За раз можно сдавать сразу по трём предметам, так что можете попытаться. И не бойтесь того что вы не добьётесь результата и это пойдёт вам на минус, единственное что вы потеряете это деньги и время, а плохой результат можно и не отправлять (никто об этом так и не узнает :D).

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language, Тест на знание английского языка как иностранного) — cдача которого обязательна для неанглоязычных иностранцев для поступления в вузы с английским языком обучения. На него тоже нужно регистрироваться заблаговременно (https://www.ets.org/toefl). Есть два вида TOEFL: iBT & PBT. Желательно нужно сдавать iBT, так как PBT уже во многих университетах не принимается. Здесь работает тот же принцип что и для SAT. Купите или найдите книгу, учитесь, практикуйтесь и ещё раз практикуйтесь (на компьютере конечно). Здесь я могу посоветовать хороший сайт. Здесь вы можете найти очень полезные советы по подготовке к этому тесту. И помните, результат этого теста очень важен. Он должен быть желательно выше 100 (в худшем 90) что является порогом во многих универах США. Если вы набрали меньше, вашу подачу просто напросто могут не рассмотреть.

Допустим, с тестами вопрос решён. Что теперь? Где найти университеты и колледджи для поступления? И главное как и откуда подавать заявления? Информацию по многим университетам вы можете найти на самом сайте https://www.collegeboard.org/. А подавал я во многие университеты через Common App. Подавать во многие американские колледжи и университеты можно от туда, но конечно всегда есть исключения. Есть такие университеты, например MIT, подача на которые осуществляется через их собственный сайт. Найти их легко. Google вам в помошь. Главное, подавайте в разные университеты. Не цельтесь только высоко и не цельтесь только низко. Цельтесь во все стороны! Да, стоит попробовать пару наилучших, пару средних и пару более достигаемых университетов. Вы никогда не знаете что может случиться.

Ну а что касается на счёт самого процесса подачи: я почти уже ничего не помню. Но дам вам совет, начинайте всё заблаговременно и не повторяйте моих ошибок. Я провёл время перед компьютером заканчивая и отправляя свои эссе и документы, вместо того чтобы встретить новый год. Поверьте, ощущения не из самых лучших. Вам придётся писать очень много эссе, переводить очень много документов, искать учителей которые бы могли написать вам рекомендательные письма и т.д. и т.п. Важно отметить что это не из тех дел что можно закончить за 1-2 недели. То есть закончить то можно, но вас там уже вряд ли примут. После написания эссе, вы его измените раз 100 и возможно под конец даже решите что хотите написать что-то совсем другое. В общем времени у вас не так много как кажется и вы не должны откладывать всё на потом.

Ну а под конец, хочу дать немного информации про самого себя. Учусь я в Германии, но почти ничего не знаю про обучение в Германии (как бы ни странно это может звучать). Дело в том что учусь я в частном университете, где всё обучение на английском. Этот университет более американский, чем немецкий. Так что если возникнут вопросы про немецкие вузы и про поступление в университеты в Германии, вы знаете к кому НЕ обращаться :D

Вроде всё что помню написал, возможно время от вермени буду пост подправлять, если вспомню что-то важное. Написал я этот пост в большой спешке, так как моя учёба в разгаре и времени у меня не так уж и много.

Back to university life.

Hello peeeepz!

Hope you are all "enjoying" the start of the school. Yep, no more Netflix&Chill through the days and no more enough sleep. All studying (and not doing internships during the summer) people around the world have similar thoughts in their heads and I'm not the exception. Even though I never Netflix & Chill through the days, I'm still not happy that the summer has ended so freaking quick. Recently, I've arrived to my university and already had my first classes for this semester. Only now I understand how much time I had during the summer days (that is the reason why I've started a blog).

Until now, I thought that this summer was completely useless. Seeing that a lot of people from my university were doing internships or some research works, I felt bad for myself. I was just back home, chilling and enjoying the time. After coming here, I felt even worse, when my friends kept asking "How was your summer? What did you do?". EVERYONE asked me that question, because that's what people usually ask after a long summer break, isn't it?

I woke up today somewhat late, comparing to my last days and went to have a breakfast. (I'm so happy that at least on Wednesdays I don't have a class in the morning) There I met couple of my friends, whom I saw for the first time in this semester. And guess what were the questions we asked each others? Yes, that question written above with bold. Actually, I was the one who started asking, because I saw that conversation coming anyways :D. So, I answered something like: "It was great and interesting, however it was useless". Then, my companion replied: "Useless? Why? Just because you didn't do an internship or a project. Actually this was probably the last chance to spend the whole summer with your family and friends. I don't think you wasted your summer. From this point on, you won't have any 'free' summers like that."

However, at that moment, I saw his words just as a try to cheer me up, now I understand how right he was. Coming summer, I have to do an internship. The next one after that I'll probably be graduated and busy trying to find a job or applying to the graduate schools. And no completely free summers after that. Now, I understand how precious were the days I spent with my family and how wonderful were the days spent in my HOMELAND.

But since I am here now and don't feel bad about my summer anymore :D, I'll try to enjoy my days at the university. Older people miss these days, so there should be something :D For all of you guys, who have started their studies, I wish the best of luck and wonderful days. And for those who are still chilling at their home and waiting for their school to start: "Make your family HAPPY, make your friends HAPPY, be HAPPY yourself!".
